How to Live Free From Oppression

Many people live under oppression not even realizing it. It is much like the frog in the water where the heat gets turned up over time, but the frog does not realize it and dies. God came to bring us freedom, life and great joy. To live below that is to miss the very best that God has for us. Jesus paid the greatest price for our freedom with His life. He does not want us to wait for the sweet bye and bye to finally get delivered from darkness. He is ready to help us to walk in freedom in the sweet here and now.

Here are a few things that I hope will be helpful to you in your desire to live a free life that is not littered with the trash of the enemy.

Join the Kingdom of Light!

The first thing we need to do is make sure we are in faith.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1 John 1:9

Have you confessed your sins Have you been honest with God in repentance Have you wholeheartedly turned away from relationships that cause you to fall or keep you from God’s best for your life Repent from specific sins. Get specific. Then ask for Jesus to wash you with His blood.

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.

Ephesians 2:8

You are saved by His grace through faith. You also live your life in Christ by grace through faith. Remember it is not about “your works”, but His grace working “in you” to help you be who He has made you to be.

 Make Your Choices

Have you renounced the ways of darkness? Repentance means to “turn the other direction”. You can say you have repented, but do your actions betray this God is looking for action more than words. We have to be willing to “break ties with darkness”. Get specific. Say to the Lord, “I renounce “this way of life or this sin” and thank Him for that deliverance.”

Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

James 4:8

Remember your actions always speak louder than your words. It is still good to say it but then follow up with actions. Is there anything associated with this “dark way” of living where you can literally dispose of it Whatever kind of addiction that it is , throw it away, trash it and get rid of it. Remove yourself from bad relationships. This is very important. You need to be willing to lay the ax to the root of the problems. Make a shift in your life. Learn to break the curses and receive the blessings of God.

Learn the Ways of Worship

Once you have repented and renounced sinful ways, then you have broken your worship of these things. These things were idols of worship that you have destroyed from your life. Now you must replace your old ways of worship with worshiping God. Now is the time to get some worship music, begin to practice being in the Presence of God worshiping. God seeks those who will worship Him in spirit and in truth.

But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

John 4:24

This is how we experience His Presence, through worship. Learn to give audible praise to God. Give Him your voice. Learn not to be ashamed to worship Him in all places. Your life is now to be wholly given over to magnify the Lord. In your times with the Lord “welcome the Holy Spirit” to fill you. This is very important. Always welcome and ask the Holy Spirit to come and fill you fresh with His Presence.

Disciple is Not a “Bad Word”

God has disciples, learn God’s Word.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,

2 Timothy 3:16

Your old ways of thinking must now be replaced with new ways of thinking. The Bible is your handbook to overcome and live in victory over sin and the devil. Jesus, as our example, used the Word of God in His own battle against evil. Read your Bible early each day. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your eyes and ears to hear and understand the Word of God. Do a word study with the concordance in the back of the Bible. If you have struggled with fear, then do a word study on “faith”. If you struggle with anger, then do a word study on “love”. This is a good way to start. You can also read through the Book of John. Start in the New Testament.

Develop Your Prayer Life

Pray in the Holy Spirit. Pray continually.

Seek Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. This will help you in your communion times with the Lord. Pray with your spirit and your understanding (English or whatever language is yours). When you pray with your spirit you are more quickly being strengthened within. Just set aside some time, whether it be 15 minutes or longer, to worship and pray with your spirit man. Turn on some worship music and spend time sowing to the Spirit. You will reap life!

For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.

1 Corinthians 14:14

With these things live a lifestyle of being quick to repent knowing that your communion with God is what enables you to be an overcomer. When we abide in Him, allowing His words to abide in us, then He will dwell in us. His indwelling Presence is the key to our lives being pleasing to Him. It is all about a living relationship, not trying to please God through keeping a list. Give God first place in all things concerning your life. Realize we can do nothing without His blessing and strength within us.
