What is the difference between prophetic worship music and just plain worship music? The difference would be that prophetic worship actually involves a sensitivity to the Holy Spirit in leading the worship time. Maybe God has a specific agenda for the time people are engaged in. This kind of worship opens the door for God to make more out of the worship time than just someone’s favorite song.
Prophetic worship does not make planned songs invalid. It does not mean that singing a planned song is wrong or inferior. All it means is that we can take things up a notch by allowing the Holy Spirit to give you on the spot instructions in what to do in the worship time. We can still have a plan, something basic. ?But it is always good to leave room for God to blow on things.
Ephesians 5:18-20
“And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Prophetic worship could be identified as a “spiritual song”. It is like a “new song”, like fresh bread from heaven’s bakery! When we allow God to bring a prophetic dimension to our worship there can be a greater opportunity to minister to others. Worship is about ministering to the Lord, but when God responds there may be something He would like to say in response to our worship that would minister to the people as well. Prophetic worship is tool God uses to awaken the hearts of people to His love and the life of His Spirit.
