This post is a continuation of the previous in regards to the encounter where I was standing before 4 ancient pillars. These pillars were comprised of righteousness, wisdom, humility and grace. Today I’m sharing on the“Pillar of Humility”.

The Pillar of Humility

Humility is definitely a subject that is better walked out, than talked about. Moses called himself the most humble man in all the earth, but he definitely had to walk it out. He had some long journeys, did things that people didn’t like at God’s command, had to deal with a lot of jealousy and criticism from some pretty hard people and was a long time in the desert.  

Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.

Numbers 12:3

In the most simple terms, humility is to be yielded to God in all aspects of life. People may see the surface commitment, but God is the only One who sees “the depth” of yielded commitment in our lives.

1. God is the only One who sees the heart.
2. God is the only One who sees in secret
3. God is the only One who sees the intimate details of a person’s life

God Sees the Heart

When God told Samuel to anoint the next King of Israel, Samuel looked at all of the sons of Jesse.  

So it was, when they came, that he looked at Eliab and said, “Surely the Lord’s anointed is before Him.”

1 Samuel 16:6

At first he began to look at the natural attributes that would make a good king, but it ended up that the most unlikely candidate was chosen. David, a man after God’s own heart, was the choice of God to be the next leader. Was it that David was perfect? No. And as time goes on we can see some of his imperfections. It was much more about David’s love and worship of God. Do people still select the impressive fleshly credentials over pure worship and relationship with God today?

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at the height of his stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.

1 Samuel 16:7

God Sees In Secret

Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them. Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.

Matthew 6:1

Jesus made it clear that what we do, we are not to do before men to be seen by them. The Pharisees wanted to be seen as “spiritual”. They wanted to the center of attention. This still happens today in different forms. People try to be spiritual, instead of realizing that everything they do in life is spiritual. We are spiritual so quit trying. Washing the dishes and how we treat others in our day is spiritual. We can spend all the time praying for others to get some kind of result but basic kindness will make a huge difference. Seek God first, help others in kindness, what we do in secret will be rewarded openly.

But when you do a charitable deed, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.

Matthew 6:3-4

God Sees Faithfulness & Intimate Details

God sees the faithfulness of a person’s life. He sees all the decisions they have made. He sees all that they have been through, the personal history. He sees what they have overcome. He sees how often a person turns to Him for help. He sees whether the motivation of a person’s heart is to please people or please Him. Our faith is not to be complex, but simple. Are we critical, pharisaical or super-spiritual? Or do we offer hope to people? Do we make people feel better or worse?

Do we lift people up or push people down? Are we controlling or do we let things go? Do we pretend to have all the answers or admit that we don’t? Are we “know it alls” or do we let God be the Judge? Is everything we do rooted in our intimacy with God or are we just big performers? Do we go around trying to prove ourselves or do we share His Presence?

Our lives are to reflect His image and carry His fragrance. We want Jesus to be glorified through us. Realizing that God is our source is most important if we are to live a humble life. We want to live with Him moment by moment. By trusting in His grace we learn not to trust in our own strength. This means that when we see something that needs fixed we don’t take it into our own hands to do it. Instead we give God the opportunity to deal with things. When we take things into our own hands it typically ends up making things worse. The best thing we can do is put God first by spending time with Him to get wisdom in all things.
