Worship: The Language of Heaven

John Belt

Worship is the language of heaven as it is constant and will go on through eternity. It is such a vast subject.  There are so many different angles to look at worship from.  Sacrifice is at the heart of worship and without it true worship doesn’t exist.  Living a life for the pleasure of the Father is what Jesus exemplified as worship.  Then we have the expressiveness of a worshipful heart that is part of it as well.  May God fill you with inspiration to live a life of true worship – because that is what He is looking for!

Being Expressive in Worship

Oh come, let us worship and bow down;
Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker.
For He is our God, And we are the people of His pasture,
And the sheep of His hand.

Psalms 95:6-7

There is nothing more powerful, even for us, when we learn how to connect with God through our expressive worship to him. There are so many ways we can approach God in worship. We can bow down, kneel, lift our hands, sing a new song to the Lord or join in with somebody else’s song of worship.

What is important to understand about worship is that when we vocalize worship to God He fills us with his Spirit. We are actually being inhabited by God as we vocalize and express our worship to Him. (Eph. 5:18) One thing you never want to lose is your expressiveness to God. There’s something so powerful about expression. When we have the freedom to express our feelings to the Lord, it not only pleases Him, but does much in our hearts . Being expressive in our worship changes us from the inside out.

Vocalizing worship helps bring our hearts into alignment with heaven and all that is happening there. Maybe you haven’t been that expressive in your worship. If not, you should try. There is more spiritual freedom to be discovered as you engage with God with all of your heart mind soul and strength.

Heaven Created on Earth

I enjoy creating an atmosphere of God‘s presence. It should be part of our daily assignment to create an atmosphere of God’s glory, that not only we experience, but others around this also can connect with. In heaven, right now, worship is going on day and night as the living creatures cry, “Holy, Holy, Holy.”

Think about the atmosphere that you usually experience, then think about what is happening right now in heaven. Compare the two and you will find that the atmosphere in heaven is so much better than here! Even the greatest of experiences I’ve had on earth in God‘s Presence I know cannot compare to what is really like.

Yet, even just a taste of heaven on earth is amazing!  Part of our call is to pray his kingdom come and his will be done on earth as it is in heaven. That prayer calls us to help bring the atmosphere of heaven on earth.

In the atmosphere of worship all things are possible: Healing, miracles, freedom, peace renewed with love for God and one another. There is no limit to what can happen as we create an atmosphere worship here on earth.

Worship is Reserved for God

True worship is reserved for God ONLY. We can have no other gods before him, no other things before Him, no other people before Him – he has to be number ONE. True Worship is wholly devoted to God alone.

Worship is sacrifice. Therefore all the other things that get in the way have to die so that He can have the fullness in our lives. Devotion to the Lord is essential.

Captured in the simplicity of our devotion to the Lord we discover a very special place that is just between the Lord and us. In this place of intimacy He speaks to us as servants and even prophets – as those who are set apart to Him. The motivation for everything that we do in life should be to glorify Him – to bring worship and honor and glory to His Name.

Worship is Forever

Another characteristic of worship is that IT IS NEVER ENDING, forever and an unending river of praise to God.With our natural minds it is hard to understand how we could be captured for eternity and worship. Yes, God will have things for us to do but the centrality of worship to Him – being captured in the awesomeness of Who He is will go on forever and ever!

Just as heaven is a place without time it is hard for us to understand how that works because we will be outside in time as well.

Time is subject to eternity but eternity is not subject to time. Time is a created substance for this epoch that we live in. But God is outside of time. He communicates to us in language that we can understand because his language is higher – far beyond natural comprehension.

The Offering of God

But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

John 4:23-24

As the Father seeks worshipers, He has also given us the reason to worship as He sent his son Jesus to the cross to die for the sins of the world, even before the foundations of the world. He has demonstrated the greatest sacrifice, The Greatest Gift, to again show us how He is worthy of our worship.

Just as Jesus is the Lamb of God, slain before the foundation of the world, we see Him as the center of all worship in heaven in the Book of Revelation.

The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying:
“Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty,
Who was and is and is to come!

Revelation 4:8

John the Baptist said, “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.” As we understand the depths of sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross, even as the “Offering of God”, it creates the greatest response of worship in our hearts.
